Photography Newness

I know I know…my website has become out-of-date and bloated. I’ve been focusing on education in my life…both in teaching and learning, so much of what I had been doing fell a bit by the wayside.

But soon I’ll be showing off new websites – for my Dog Photography, my Holga Toy Camera fine art and bringing my digital photography course online!

“What? But what about your award-winning wedding photography?” I’m sure many are asking. Well, the truth is…I’m moving away from shooting weddings full time. What?! In truth, I’ll still maintain a presence for my Wedding Photojournalism. BUT, I’m going to be choosing my clients more carefully and shooting only select weddings in the future. In other words, if a couple likes my work, and the chemistry is there? Yes, by all means! I still love shooting weddings…I just want to make sure the ones I shoot are for couples who truly appreciate my style.

So, that in mind! I’ll be introducing some new domains (including for weddings!) and some very new websites!

In the meantime, keep visiting here for updated content, and be sure to visit my facebook pages!

Colorado poet laureate Dave Mason visited the 2012 Poetry Slam, at Colorado Mountain College Summit Campus, last night.

A great chance to hear his words. Mason has written many books, including the acclaimed Ludlow.

Seeking the Wolf Inside – Colorado Dog Photography

I’m fascinated by stories of the wolves and of their bonding with man. Books by James Oliver Curwood (my favorite new author of Alaskan adventure) and Jack London capture and essence of wolves in a way few other authors do (though, I’m always up for new readings, so let me know!).

I think this is a very large part of my connection with dogs; the seeking of wilder times and the rawness all of us harbor.

So, it’s always fun to capture images of vocal dogs and watch as they lose themselves in the call of the wild (thanks Jack).

Colorado Cowboy Holga Toy Camera photography

Every once in a while an image comes along and I feel the photojournalist in me again. It sometimes seems too few and far between, these moments in the viewfinder where everything comes together, where life intersects and creates a composition in front of me.

And, as a photojournalist that composition was always about people. So, when I went to Leadville, Colorado earlier this month for the Ski-Joring competition, I went with blank canvas and vague ideas.

Finding John and Red made my day. At the moment I shot this first image…more to come because my scanner is slow…at the moment…just as I was about to click the clunky Holga shutter, John turned and looked back at me. Click! And I knew, at that instance – that is, short of never having a clue with these Holgas – I knew that I had an image, the moment, a slice in time.

The surroundings where there, the back-lighting was wrapping and the moment of him turning to look at me became the Gesture in the image (as described by Jay Maisel).

Wow. I am again inspired to keep seeking, keep looking and keep responding to life in the viewfinder.

I’m trying to always take my camera with me now on hikes, cross-country ski jaunts and to the local places like Red Buffalo and Elk Mountain Trading Post. So, I’ll continue to post new Colorado Dog photographs as I see them!

Colorado Lifestyle Wedding Photography – Jaime and Jordan

I had a chance to do some engagement wedding photography for Jaime and Jordan who will be getting married out of state.

While the weather didn’t exactly cooperate, we managed to get in about an hour before we couldn’t shoot anymore! Here are a few from the photography session!
