I got to meet and photograph two very cool people recently. It was a last-minute wedding for me, but I am so happy I was able to accommodate the family and Lauren and Michael.  My next post will feature images from their wedding photography at Copper Mountain, Colorado. I also offered to take them for a quick lifestyles photography session at one of my favorite locations near Frisco, Colorado.

The background of Colorado’s Continental Divide doesn’t get any better! The peaks are Grays and Torreys, 14,267 and 14,270 feet!

I had the great opportunity to meet and photograph Kevin Michael Connolly this past Wednesday. He spoke at Colorado Mountain College (Summit Campus) as part of his Double Take book & photo exhibition tour.

Meeting Kevin has given me a chance to reconsider my day-to-day approach to life. He is an inspiration. And, he has guts and fortitude and a sense of humor that is unmatched. Thanks Kevin.

Here are a few images from a Colorado Family Portrait Photography session with Allison Perry. I have been working with them for many years now. Here’s a selection of Allison through the years! Also, my Holga Toy Camera photograph of a girl skipping (Girl Seeking Window) is Allison, captured during an impromptu moment a few years ago.

The square black and white image is Alli when she was about 8 years old. I believe I photographed this in 2003! This was shot on medium format film in my Mamiya 645.

Allison this summer 2010. These were captured at the Frisco Historic Park and represented a nice change of pace from the mountain backdrop. Also, these were all with natural light – also a nice departure for my work.

When it comes to photography of families, there is no telling what a studio session might be like. When Michelle & family from Alpine Veterinary Practice (Dillon, CO 80435 970/468-2144) came into the studio I had no idea what to expect from this mix of family photography, infant photography and dog photography!

Michelle & husband Chaz, one infant, one four-year-old (Cody) and two 11-week old lab puppies. Piece of cake. Sure. And when we were done shooting…WOW! I surprised even myself! Here’s a selection from an amazing session! I even had energy left to photograph the puppies by themselves when we were done.

Michelle and Chaz were great, leaving the pups alone for me to “work” with (ha ha ha). Okay, so it requires patience and a great sense of humor for puppy antics! The last set is a series of the pups posing, then falling prey to each other!

The Center for Fine Art Photography has selected “Biker Girl” to hang in its 2009 Portraits Exhibition, Nov. 6 – 28th.

I photographed this little girl in 1985 when I lived in Eagle Nest with a group of bikers, in what used to be summer tourist cabins. I was the regional editor for Taos News at the time.

The images were selected by juror, Mary Ellen Mark.  Mary Ellen Mark is a photographer known for her photojournalism, portraiture, and advertising photography. She has had 17 collections of her work published and has exhibited at galleries and museums worldwide. She has received numerous accolades, including three fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. Additionally, Mark was awarded the Photographer of the Year Award from the Friends of Photography, three Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards, Matrix Award for outstanding woman in the field of film/photography, World Press Award for Outstanding Body of Work Throughout the Years, Victor Hasselblad Cover Award, and numerous other prestigious awards.  Mark has published photo-essays and portraits in such publications as LIFE, New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and Vanity Fair. For over four decades, she has traveled extensively to make pictures that reflect a high degree of humanism. Today, she is recognized as one of our most respected and influential photographers.

The Portraits will be on display in the Center’s online gallery and physical gallery from November 6 – November 28, 2009. The public and artists’ reception will be held in Fort Collins on November 6, 2009 from 6-9pm.

Here’s a selection of the images I captured yesterday with Zack for his Senior Portrait Photography. We did the photography down by Lake Dillon at the Dillon Amphitheater and one of the docks.

Here’s a selection of Maya & Kate. I captured these Monday night at Brent and Allison’s house. I photographed Brent and Alli’s wedding in 2002 and we’ve become close friends over the years. The photos were unplanned and casual using only available light!

Here’s a sampling of senior portrait photography from my session with Lukas Dobler. The images are captured with Colorado’s Continental Divide in the background. That’s Grays and Torreys peaks at 14,267 and 14,260 respectively! The other mountain featured is Peak One, in Frisco, Colorado. 

Here is a selection of images from Darby and Josh’s wedding photography at Ski Tip Ranch in Keystone, Colorado. 

The weather held out (first nice day in three weeks!) making for a beautiful day. I had particularly great time shooting black & white of just expressions at the reception. I take off the zoom lens and flash, put on a compact little 50mm lens and am able to really disappear into the crowd. It allows me to capture moments of people in a way no one else can, responding to the moments and natural light. 

At the end of the evening, Darby got up with the band and belted out a tune or three! Check that photo carefully and you’ll see some cool zooming effect. That woman can really lay it down! I can’t wait to see her with her band.
