How important is your wedding photography? Take a look at this Guru.com service request and consider this as you balance your wedding photography budget with the confidence of hiring a respected wedding photography professional.
I’ve bolded some of the text to emphasize the importance.

My husband and I had our wonderful wedding day over a year ago, but were not too pleased with the outcome of the photos. There is one photo we like, but the background caught a few cars…we also have a photo with the wedding party we like- but if there is a way to focus in on us and just have us in the pic, and change the background but make sure it does not look fake, that would mean a great deal. The budget is limited as we are also starting out, but this still means a lot. so let us know how you would edit the photo (saved on dvd) and how much total.

One photo out of an entire day of photography? One? Was it worth the money they “saved” against the disappointment (frustration, anger, fill in the blank)?
I am continually amazed at the number of Guru requests to “fix” bad photography. I see it two to three times per week. If couples and clients simply budgeted for quality photography up front then the time, frustration and additional money could have been saved.
Think about this as you begin budgeting for your wedding photography. What’s it worth to the two of you? Think of what remains for memories after the big day. After the cake, the flowers and the food.
I’m not asking you to scrimp on other areas to finance your wedding photography. Cliches come from oft-repeated truths and in this case, you really do get what you pay for.
If you ask me for wedding vendor recommendations I’m only going to refer you to the best professionals in this business. Why? Because I’ve worked with them, I know their services, their products, their food.
As for your wedding photography, do you really want to trust your work to someone who just bought a digital camera and is suddenly a wedding photographer? Or a friend or relative who should be enjoying the wedding, not working at it?
Last year I had the amazing opportunity. I received a call and the bride mentioned that her aunt is Susan Tusa. As a former photojournalist, I immediately recognized the name – award-winning photojournalist for the Detroit Free Press – wonderful photographer…and I’m not name dropping. Her work is inspirational.
Was she at her niece’s wedding to work? Not from what I saw!
So, think twice before you go for the lowest price, friend or relative. If you enjoy quality wedding photography and the moments of your day are important to you make sure you budget that in to your wedding day dollars.
